What’s the best way to whiten your teeth?

Dentist-supervised tooth whitening is the most predictable way to whiten teeth.   Crest White Strips can cover sensitive root surfaces with whitening agent;  that’s a very bad thing to do to the root surfaces of your teeth and may be quite painful.   Other forms of “tooth whitening,”  such as whitening toothpastes, whitening floss, and whitening mouthwashes, SIMPLY DON’T WORK!   The whitening toothpastes remove surface stain but don’t stay in contact with your teeth long enough to remove stains from inside the teeth.   It’s this internal staining  from coffee, tea, blueberries and other fruits, and wine that make your teeth look darking through the years.  Dentist-supervised tooth whitening removes these internal stains.

We have several techniques for tooth whitening, and all work well.   For people who can whiten during the day, we use a special whitening gel that you apply to your teeth twice a day in custom-made thin flexible “trays.”   Each application is for a half hour, and the two applications have to be done at least two hours apart.

For people who prefer to whiten at night, we have a gel formula that you can apply when you go to bed.  Same thin flexible “trays,” and same results.

We also offer immediate-gratification Zoom whitening.  This is a 90-minute in-office procedure, using a special patented light source to speed the whitening process.  You’ll leave the office with a noticeably whiter smile!   We include complementary whitening trays as part of this procedure;  if you use the tray/gel system at home for a few more days, the results are even more impressive.

Smiles for Life 2011—a teeth whitening fundraise

For the past 12 years, my office has done a charity fundraiser;  we’ve raised over $70,000 for local and national charities which benefit children.
Here’s how it works:  Our usual fee for at-home tooth whitening is $395.
From March 1 to June 30, we will waive this fee.  Instead, we ask you to donate $295 (or more if you wish) to the Smiles for Life Foundation.  Half of the monies we raise will be distributed through Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation to over 200 children’s charities.  This year, the other half will benefit the Be Proud Foundation, which gives disadvantaged teens the life skills needed to continue their education and become successful adults.
Every penny we raise goes directly to charity.  Participating dentists chip in to pay all the administrative costs of the program.
This is your chance to get a whiter smile and to give some kids a greater reason to smile.

For 2011, we raised money for ron jawarski’s “jaws for kids” foundation. Every year we try to find a deserving but not well known charity that “flies under the radar.” a couple of extra thousand dollars in the budget can make a big difference for charities like this. Many of our charity suggestions come from our patients, so please contact us if you have any good ideas in this area
